1. What is Local.com?

Local.com is a local-search engine with a database of over 16 million business listings encompassing every zip code across the United States and two million listings covering every postal code in the UK.

2. How does it work?

Local.com uses a combination of our proprietary Keyword DNA™ and geographic web indexing technologies to provide relevant search results for local businesses, products and services.

3. What kind of information can I get?

Use Local.com to look up names, phone numbers and addresses of businesses in your area or beyond. Our listings include useful information such as store hours, reviews, services offered, environmental reports, and PTA meetings to name a few. Additionally you can use Local.com to make restaurant reservations, request service quotes, get directions, search for people, buy and sell items via our classifieds, and look for a job.

4. What is Keyword DNA™?

Keyword DNA™ is our proprietary software which allows Local.com to determine linked associations for each business so that we can display relevant businesses for a search request.

5. Where does this information come from?

Local.com sources its information from national business-to-business list compilers, data obtained by our web crawler, and information supplied by our affiliated partners.

6. How do I use Local.com?

Type the name or the type of business or service in the "WHAT" box and enter the location in the "WHERE" box. You can enter a city, state, landmark, zip code, area code or airport code as the geographic location. Local.com has the ability to determine your current location, and provide business listings in your local area even if you do not input a specific location in the "WHERE" box.

7. What is the maximum number of results I can get for a query?

Local.com will return all indexed results related to a query. Results are displayed ten per page.

8. How are the results sorted?

Our algorithm and proprietary Keyword DNA™ determine which businesses are the most relevant to a specific search request. Additionally, you can sort the returned listings alphabetically or by distance.

9. Is the first result the most relevant one?

The most relevant and geographically local businesses are displayed first.

10. What are the italicized terms that appear underneath each business listing following the three dots?

The italicized terms are examples of keywords in our proprietary Keyword DNA™ associated with each specific business. These keywords show why a displayed business is considered to be relevant to your search.

11. Can I set a default location in Local.com?

Yes, simply check the save location checkbox next to the search box. Local.com will remember this location as your default location for all your subsequent visits.

12. How does Local.com calculate distance?

Local.com calculates the distance from the population center of the zip code of the entered location to the business you are looking for.

13. Does Local.com work all over the world?

Currently we offer local listings in the United States and the U.K.

14. What is "SEND TO MOBILE DEVICE"?

This feature allows you to send the search result to your mobile device. Note: Local.com does not charge you to use SEND TO MOBILE DEVICE. However, your wireless provider's standard rates for text messages will apply. Check with your carrier for further information.
